Half of These Grand Canyon Reviews Are About the Jokes

Travel Analysts
One Las Vegas operator sells the Grand Canyon day trip as a comedy show with a canyon in it, and the reviews take the premise seriously: 50.1% of 1,275 positive reviews mention the comedy. We read two independent samples of the same operator — 320 from TripAdvisor and 967 from Google — and they give 49.4% and 50.4%. Across all coach operators the same theme sits at 6.5%.

This operator is listed twice in our corpus: as a product on one review platform and as a business on another. The two samples barely overlap — of 967 reviews on one, exactly one text also appears among the 516 on the other. So they work as a check on each other.
| Mentioned in the positive reviews | Share |
|---|---|
| 😂 The comedy | 50.1% |
| 🏞️ The stops: the dam, the canyon, Route 66 | 25.3% |
| 🍳 Breakfast and lunch | 22.0% |
| 👥 Two people named: a host and a driver | 18.5% |
| 💧 Water and drinks on board | 9.7% |
| 🕐 The length of the day | 3.3% |
| 🙁 The comedy did not land | 0.3% |
On the first, 156 of 316 positive reviews mention the comedy: 49.4%. On the second, 483 of 959: 50.4%. A theme that lands within one percentage point on two separate samples is not a quirk of how one platform's reviewers write.
“Pat made us laugh all day and we had an amazing time! All of the waters stocked to keep us hydrated too!” — TripAdvisor, 5 stars, September 2026
For scale: across every Las Vegas coach operator we measured, humor appears in 6.5% of the four- and five-star reviews. Here it is eight times that, in one product.
The trade-off: a tour that makes the commentary the selling point gets reviewed on the commentary, which is why these reviews tell you more about a person than about the canyon. If what you want is the canyon evaluated, this listing will not give it to you.
The comedian is not driving
Eighteen and a half per cent of positive reviewers name two people, and when they explain the roles they describe a division of labor: someone works the microphone, someone else drives the coach.
“Barry and I enjoyed our trip to the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon because Pat infused the tour with his comedy! And George the driver (Pat's sidekick) kept us safe on the road; excellent driver!” — TripAdvisor, 5 stars, September 2026
“Pat and Luis make a great team. Pat was very knowledgeable and made everyone feel comfortable.” — TripAdvisor, 5 stars, September 2026
That matters for a fourteen-hour day on a desert highway. On most coach tours the person entertaining you is the person steering.
The trade-off: two staff on a coach costs more than one and it is why the entertainment can run while the vehicle moves. It also means the day depends on two rosters rather than one, and you cannot pick either.
The rest of the day is meals and stops
Strip the comedy out and what remains is a standard Las Vegas canyon day, and reviewers describe it in those terms: 25.3% write about the stops and 22.0% about the food, which on this operator includes both a breakfast and a lunch.
“No comedy but wasn't there for that. The breakfast options were great and made to order. Lunch was good and options as well. You do not go inside Hoover Dam or the shop. You stop and take photos.” — TripAdvisor, 5 stars, September 2026
Nearly ten per cent mention water being handed out, which in a desert summer is a detail people notice.
The trade-off: two meals and unlimited water are a real part of what you are paying for, and they are also what makes the price hard to compare against a tour that includes neither. Read the inclusions before the rating.
The comedy is the one thing nobody can promise
This is the part a buyer needs, and it comes from both ends of the rating scale. Some reviewers did not know they had booked a comedy tour.
“We didn't realise the tour guides were comedians but this was a nice touch and fun instead of just your average tour.” — TripAdvisor, 5 stars, August 2026
Some booked one and did not get one, and said so cheerfully.
“Comedy Tours is who we booked with. No comedy but wasn't there for that.” — TripAdvisor, 5 stars, September 2026
And some booked one, did not get one, and minded.
“The guide was not funny at all. Didn't even try to be. The dam employees were not friendly and seemed to rush you through. The tour was interesting but I would not do it again.” — TripAdvisor, 3 stars, August 2026
The trade-off: buying a personality means buying whoever is rostered, and comedy is the part of a tour least able to guarantee itself. The reviews that mention it are overwhelmingly positive; the ones that do not mention it are not complaining, they are describing a bus.
What the unhappy reviewers complain about
Of the 1,287 reviews in our two samples, five are at one or two stars and seven at three. Twelve reviews cannot carry a percentage and we are not calculating one. What they have in common is worth saying: almost none of them is about the canyon or the jokes. They are about the clock.
“my complaint is about time management. comedy on deck's website says they are different than other tour companies because they have their own buses and can go into places other tours can't. We were supposed to be picked up at 7:00 at Excalibur. They were exactly on time. We all boarded. One family was close to 30 minutes late. We waited for them.” — TripAdvisor, 3 stars, July 2026
The scale of the operation shows up in these reviews too: reviewers mention numbered buses and waiting for other groups, which is the trade-off of an operator running several coaches a day rather than one.
The trade-off: an operator big enough to run its own fleet is the reason the schedule works at all and the reason a late family on another bus becomes your problem. Nothing in these reviews suggests the day fails; it runs late.
Common questions
❓ Is the Grand Canyon comedy tour actually funny?
Half the positive reviewers say so — 50.1% mention the comedy, and the figure holds on two separate platforms. A small number say the guide made no attempt at it. Who is on the microphone changes daily and is not something you can book.
❓ What is included on the comedy Grand Canyon tour from Las Vegas?
By the reviews: hotel pickup, a breakfast stop, a lunch, water on board, a Hoover Dam photo stop and time at the canyon. Twenty-two per cent mention the meals. What is included is set by the operator and changes.
❓ How is a comedy tour different from a normal Grand Canyon coach tour?
Two things show up in the reviews. The commentary is the product rather than a bonus, and there are two staff on board — a host and a driver — where most coach tours have one person doing both.
Method and Limits
This article measures one operator, in two places. Our corpus holds 320 reviews of its TripAdvisor product listing and 967 of its Google business listing, both collected in 2026 without filtering by rating. They are effectively independent: exactly one review text appears in both, and it is counted once.
Both samples reproduce their populations. The TripAdvisor sample averages 4.90 against the 4.9 the listing published when we read it; the Google sample averages 4.96 against 5.0. Both windows are recent — July to September 2026 — because this operator collects reviews far faster than most, which is a separate finding and is treated in its own article.
Of the 1,287 reviews, 1,275 are at four or five stars, seven at three and five at one or two. Twelve reviews cannot support a rate, so nothing here describes the low-rated side as a percentage; those twelve are read and quoted instead. A further 196 reviews collected from low ratings only were read for patterns and are not counted.
Percentages are shares of the 1,275 positive reviews that mention a theme, found by pattern and then read. The comparison figure of 6.5% comes from our separate measurement of humor across all Las Vegas coach operators. These measure what reviewers chose to write about, not what happened on any given day.
Which staff are rostered, what is included, which stops run and what it costs are set by the operator and change. Confirm them before booking. Quotes are reproduced exactly as written, including the writers' spelling and punctuation, and each was checked word for word against the stored review. Figures describe reviews published up to September 2026.
