What Divides Michael Jackson ONE Reviews Is Not the Music

The music is not what splits Michael Jackson ONE's reviews: about half of the one- and two-star reviews talk about it, the same share as the four- and five-star ones. The split is the volume and the format. 35% of the bad reviews complain it is too loud, against 6% of the good; 22% say it is mostly dancing with little Cirque, against 4%. Fans describe both things too. The difference is that they expected them, and some brought earplugs.

We read 500 rated reviews of Michael Jackson ONE, collected without filtering by rating: 65 at one or two stars, 54 at three, 381 at four or five. The music comes up in 48% of the bad ones, 57% of the three-star ones and 49% of the good ones. That is as flat as a trait gets. By the test we use across this research, it describes the show rather than a fault in it.
Among the unhappy reviewers are people who came for Michael and did not blame him:

That second line holds the whole article. The complaints are about what surrounds the songs.
The trade-off: loving the catalogue is not a predictor of loving the show. It is the reason most people book, and it protects nobody from the two things below.
It is a dance show with Cirque in it, and the fans know the ratio
Fourteen of the 65 bad reviews say it is mostly dancing, a musical or a concert, with little of the acrobatics Cirque du Soleil is known for. Fifteen of the 381 good reviews say the same thing. That is 22% against 4%, more than five times as often among the unhappy.
The striking part is that both camps give it the same proportion. A four-star fan:

Nobody disagrees about what is on stage. What decides the rating is whether they expected it:

The fans who flag it are also the most useful guide for anyone choosing between the big Cirque productions. One five-star reviewer described it as having

The trade-off: the show gives you the songs, the staging and a lot of choreography. If what you want from a Cirque ticket is aerial and acrobatic work, the other resident productions are built around it and this one is not.
The volume: the same show, prepared for or not
This is the widest gap we measured for this show. Twenty-three of the 65 bad reviews describe the show as too loud, and 10 of the 54 three-star ones do: 35% and 19%. Among the good reviews it is 23 of 381, or 6%. We removed the matches that were not about the sound — a reviewer who sang along loudly, people shouting in the row behind — and the ones that said the opposite.
For some people it ends the evening. Three of the 65 bad reviews say they left before the end, and two of those name the volume as the reason:
“It was an awful experience even after putting in ear plugs. We had to leave before 15 minutes.” — TripAdvisor, 1 star, February 2023
The three-star reviews show how close a verdict can be to the knob:
“if they turned the volume down 10-20% this would have been a glowing review.” — TripAdvisor, 3 stars, August 2025
But the fans describe the same volume, and some of them treat it as part of the deal:

Seven of the 23 good reviews that mention the volume also mention earplugs or ear protection. Three reviewers say staff handed them out, including a parent whose six-year-old found it too loud:
“The music was very loud - too loud for my 6 year old but this was sorted quickly with ear plugs. Thankfully the ushers had them on hand.” — TripAdvisor, 5 stars, September 2025
Where you sit may not help much. Accounts of seat position contradict each other, and one four-star reviewer describes the sound coming from the seat itself:
“In addition to giant speakers, there was a speaker in the headrest (assuming for all). My ears were ringing for 2 days.” — TripAdvisor, 4 stars, December 2024
The trade-off: the volume is part of how the show is designed to feel, and the people who love it say so. If you are sensitive to sound, or bringing a child, the realistic choice is between earplugs and a different show, not between seats.
The cold is the complaint both sides share
One problem appears at the same rate whatever the rating: the temperature in the theater. It is in 4.6% of the bad reviews, 5.6% of the three-star ones and 3.4% of the good ones. By our test, that makes it a fact about the room rather than something that ruins the show for a particular kind of viewer.
It is also a complaint that fans take stars off for, even when they loved the show:

Six of the 19 reviewers who mention it describe moving air — a wind, a draft, air conditioning aimed at them — rather than just a cool room. One estimated the temperature:
“Was about 50 fahrenheit/10 celcius due to cold Wind from behind.” — TripAdvisor, 2 stars, August 2026
That figure is a guess from a single visit, not a measurement, and room temperature is something a venue can change.
The trade-off: this is the easiest of the three problems to solve, and the one nobody warns you about at the door. A layer costs nothing; dressing for a Las Vegas evening outside is what catches people out.
Who should book it
The reviews sort the audience fairly cleanly. Book it if you want Michael Jackson's music staged at full scale and you are comfortable with a dance-led show at concert volume. Look at the other Cirque productions first if what you are paying for is acrobatics.
If you go, bring earplugs rather than hoping you will not need them, and bring a layer. If you are taking children, check the show's own age guidance before booking and plan for the volume.

Figures come from 500 rated TripAdvisor reviews of Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil, collected without filtering by rating and published between October 2022 and September 2026: 65 at one or two stars, 54 at three and 381 at four or five. Our corpus also holds a separate set gathered from negative reviews only; no figure here is calculated from it. We checked for duplicate texts filed under different ids and found none.
Each trait was first found with a keyword pattern and then read review by review. We removed matches that did not say what the trait says — loud audience members, reviewers who said the show was not too loud, a complaint that the circus acts did not connect rather than that they were missing — and report the counts after that reading. Quotes are reproduced exactly as written, including the writers' spelling, and each was checked word for word against the stored review.
The comparison uses the test we apply across this research: a trait that appears at a similar rate in good and bad reviews describes the experience; one that appears far more often among the unhappy is doing damage. Music: 48% of bad reviews, 49% of good. Volume: 35% against 6.0%, a ratio of 5.9. Little Cirque or mostly dancing: 22% against 3.9%, a ratio of 5.5. Cold: 4.6% against 3.4%.
These are things reviewers chose to mention, not a count of how often they happen. The two complaints this article is about cover a large part of the bad reviews but not most of them: 36 of the 65 mention neither.
