KÀ in Las Vegas: Even Its Critics Praise the Stage

Travel Analysts
We read 300 reviews of KÀ, the Cirque du Soleil show at MGM Grand, collected without filtering by rating. What separates the bad reviews is one complaint: boring. It appears in 49.0% of the one- and two-star reviews and 5.9% of the four- and five-star ones. The stage is not the problem. Most low ratings are spread across a dozen grievances. KÀ's are not. The words boring, slow, dragged and asleep account for the gap almost on their own.
| Reviews of KÀ that call it boring, slow or say they fell asleep | Share |
|---|---|
| 🔴 One and two stars | 49.0% (24 of 49) |
| 🟡 Three stars | 31.0% (9 of 29) |
| 🟢 Four and five stars | 5.9% (13 of 222) |
Twenty-four of the 49 one- and two-star reviews use them. So do nine of the 29 three-star reviews, which is what makes this a dividing line rather than a few angry outliers: the reviewers in the middle say the same thing, less often. In the four- and five-star reviews the share drops to 5.9%.
“Ka was by far the most boring and unimpressive show.”
— TripAdvisor, 2 stars, March 2025
The comparison in that review is the useful part: the reviewer had seen six shows on the same trip. Several of the low-rated reviews come from people who say they have seen other Cirque du Soleil productions and enjoyed them.
The trade-off: a show disliked for being slow is a show where the disagreement is about pace, not quality. That is easier to predict than most complaints, because you know whether long stretches without a big act bother you.
Twelve of the 49 say someone fell asleep
This is the detail that recurs most specifically. In twelve of the 49 low-rated reviews, the writer, or someone they came with, fell asleep or could not keep their eyes open.
“Half of my family fell asleep during the performance and the rest of us were bored and confused.”
— TripAdvisor, 1 star, May 2025
“My husband and I both fell asleep.”
— TripAdvisor, 2 stars, June 2024
Three of the 222 good reviews mention sleep. One is a five-star reviewer who found the story tedious and says they fell asleep several times, and rated the show on its stunts anyway. The other two are a parent whose three-year-old dozed through the fight scenes and a reviewer arguing with the critics.
The trade-off: a dark theater, a late showtime and a full day on the Strip make anyone drowsy, and these reviews cannot separate the show from the evening around it. What they do show is that drowsiness is the specific way KÀ fails for the people it fails for.
The stage is not what fails
The good reviews of KÀ talk about the stage more than any single act. It tilts, turns and stands up almost vertical, and 40.1% of the four- and five-star reviews mention it.
“The number one star of KA is the stage, which tilts and spins and enables wildly improbable acrobatics.”
— TripAdvisor, 4 stars, April 2025
The unhappy reviewers agree. Eleven of the 49 one- and two-star reviews praise the stage or the set in the same review that gives the show one or two stars.
“The set is awesome but the show makes no sense and is boring.”
— TripAdvisor, 1 star, December 2024
“The stage was really cool, but the rest of the show was boring.”
— TripAdvisor, 2 stars, November 2024
The acrobatics do not separate the two groups either: 28.6% of the low-rated reviews mention them and 26.6% of the good ones do.
| Mentioned in the review | One and two stars | Four and five stars |
|---|---|---|
| 😴 Boring, slow or asleep | 49.0% | 5.9% |
| 🎭 The stage or the set | 28.6% | 40.1% |
| 🤸 The acrobatics | 28.6% | 26.6% |
The trade-off: a production built around its machinery delivers the machinery every night. Whether the story carried between the big moments holds you is what decides the review, and the stage cannot do that part.
The slow part is the beginning
Seven reviewers say where the slow part was, and all seven put it in the same place: the start. Seven is too few for a percentage and we are not calculating one, but they cross the scale from one star to four, and some of them say the ending made up for it.
“All four people in our group came out and said the same thing, that for the first 60 minutes we were bored.”
— TripAdvisor, 1 star, October 2024
“Boring first half, great 2nd half”
— TripAdvisor, 3 stars, April 2023
“It started a little slow but really picked up as it went along.”
— TripAdvisor, 4 stars, September 2024
The difference between the one-star and the four-star version of that sentence is whether the ending made up for the beginning.
The trade-off: a show that builds toward its finale rewards patience and punishes a tired audience. If you are seeing it after a long day, that matters more than which seats you buy.
The people who loved it answer the critics directly
This is the honest other half. Thirteen of the 222 good reviews use the same words, and five of those thirteen are arguing with the people who called it boring.
“Certainly not boring--who writes these reviews?”
— TripAdvisor, 5 stars, July 2024
“Those saying it was a snooze fest must have been asleep during the wonderful acrobatics and stunts.”
— TripAdvisor, 5 stars, November 2024
What the enthusiastic reviews describe is the moment the stage stands up and the performers fight on it.
“The fight scene on the vertical cliff had my heart in my mouth.”
— TripAdvisor, 5 stars, October 2025
The trade-off: the same ninety minutes reads as a slow story to some reviewers and as build-up to a set piece to others. Nothing in these reviews says which you will be; the ratings only say that both groups are large.

Method and Limits
This article measures one show: the 300 reviews of KÀ by Cirque du Soleil in our corpus, collected without filtering by rating and written between March 2023 and September 2026. Of those, 222 are at four or five stars, 29 at three and 49 at one or two. A further 72 reviews collected from low ratings only were read for patterns and are never counted; nothing in the percentages above comes from them.
The boredom figure counts reviews using boring, bored, snooze (including "snoozefest"), slow, dragged or asleep, and each match was read. All 24 in the low-rated reviews are complaints about the show; five of the 13 in the good reviews argue against that complaint, and we report them as such rather than removing them. The separation holds within every band of review length, so it is not an effect of longer reviews, and it is spread across the years in proportion to the number of low-rated reviews in each.
We checked this show's name and venue against Cirque du Soleil's own page in October 2026. The slow-start pattern in H2.4 rests on seven reviews and is reported as seven, not as a rate. A version of this show's low reviews blaming the storyline was measured separately and does not hold up across review lengths, which is why this article does not argue it.
Percentages measure what reviewers chose to write about, not what happened on any night. Quotes are reproduced exactly as written, including the writers' spelling, and each was checked word for word against the stored review. Figures describe reviews published up to September 2026.
